Heatable die sets bring controlled heating into the pressing cycle. When powder is compacted at temperature it exhibits improved plasticity, reduced internal stress and stronger interparticle bonding, producing fewer cracks and more uniform, high-density pellets.
How they work
A heatable die set incorporates the same components as a standard pellet die — cavity, punches, and plunger — but with integrated heating elements and temperature controllers.
Many materials — polymers, metal oxides, ceramics, catalysts, battery electrode powders and high-moisture minerals — respond to heat during compaction.
Thermal assistance lowers brittleness and lets materials that require a phase change form into uniform pellets.
Fewer cracks and stronger interparticle bonding give clearer spectra and more reliable XRF elemental results.
